Privacy policy

For the Stopby app · Last updated 24 September 2026

This policy explains what information the Stopby app handles and how. Stopby is published by Spikewave Pty Ltd (spikewave.tech).

Stopby does not collect your personal information. Everything the app stores stays on your device. There are no accounts, no servers holding your data and no analytics.

Information we collect

None. The app has no backend that receives your data.

Where it is stored

Everything Stopby stores — your places, tags, reminders, a 60-day on-device reminder history and a diagnostics log — stays in an encrypted database on your phone. Stopby opts out of Android's cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so a phone backup never carries a copy. If you save a place by typing its address, your phone's built-in address lookup (Google on Android, Apple on iPhone) turns it into a map location, so that text goes to them under their own privacy terms. Stopby receives nothing, and your current location is never part of it.

Device permissions

Stopby requests the following permissions, and only for the reasons given:

  • Location (all the time) — So Stopby can notice you have arrived at one of your saved places while it is closed. Evaluated on your phone by the operating system and never transmitted. Without it, reminders only work while the app is on screen, and the app says so.
  • Notifications — To show the reminder when you arrive. Stopby marks its notifications as private, so if your phone hides sensitive content on the lock screen, only "Stopby" shows there until you unlock.

Advertising and analytics

We do not share your data with advertisers and the app contains no advertising SDKs. The app contains no analytics or tracking software.

Security

Data is held on your device only and is not transmitted.

Deleting your data

Settings → Data → Delete all my data erases every place, tag and reminder, the reminder history and the diagnostics log in one step. Deleting a place or reminder removes it immediately, and uninstalling the app removes everything, because none of it exists anywhere but your phone.

You can also email stopby@spikewave.tech and we will delete it for you.

Your rights

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) in South Africa — and under the GDPR if you are in the EU or UK — you may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Write to stopby@spikewave.tech and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

Stopby is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13 (or the relevant age of digital consent in your region).

Changes to this policy

We update this page whenever what the app collects changes, and note the revision date at the top.
